Dunes & Sand Residence

Nestled within the rolling dunes of Knokke-Heist, Dunes & Sands Residence weaves architecture and interior design into a single, tranquil tapestry. Hans Christian Demyttenaere of Myth Architects and interior architect Arjaan De Feyter have shaped a home that seems to emerge organically from its coastal setting, never overpowering it. The natural contours of the land inspired a split-level layout, lending the house a quiet confidence. Rather than a single open expanse, a series of unique rooms reveal themselves, each adaptable to the rhythms of daily life and the shifting light.

A harmonious palette guides the eye throughout the home. Oiled walnut ceilings, subtle bronze accents, and fossil-hued limestone flow seamlessly from room to room, weaving a sense of unity. Certain spaces are purposefully cocooned in shade and intimacy, while others unfold toward the garden in a welcoming embrace. Horizontal lines trace the walls, grounding the design in human scale. At the entrance, a deep bronze lacquer introduces a hushed, moody atmosphere, letting the sunlit living areas shine with even greater vitality.

At the threshold where home and landscape converge, Sky-Frame Classic sliding windows become the heart of the design. These expansive panes, soaring up to four metres high, invite sunlight and the coastal breeze to flood the interior. Achieving such openness without sacrificing performance or comfort was a feat of engineering. Yet, these grand windows move with effortless grace, making the flow between indoors and outdoors a natural, unspoken ritual woven into daily living.

The glazing melds so seamlessly with the architecture that it feels both present and invisible. Where the garden beckons, the room stretches outward; where comfort calls, it gently encloses. Dunes & Sands Residence is not simply set upon the land, but discovers its own serene spirit through the interplay of material, light, and proportion. Here, home and landscape converse in perfect harmony.
